Important Changes to Management of HGV Vehicles

Improved Safety of Loading & Unloading Processes at Servosteel - And what it means to our Customers & Suppliers

With the aim of improving the safety of our visiting HGV drivers when at Servosteel, we have purchased new equipment and developed new procedures and safe working methods in order to reduce the likelihood of incidents/accidents when drivers are on site collecting and delivering material.  Particular emphasis has been placed on Safe Working at Height (ie on Trailer beds).

The planned go live date for these new safer methods of work is Monday 11th November. To achieve this we will be conducting a training and induction program with all visiting drivers from Thursday 24th October leading upto Saturday 9th November. This induction is expected to last for around 30mins and will include practical demonstrations of our equipment, and the communication of supporting documentation. The drivers will need to sign this as confirmation that he/she understands the new procedures and agrees to work to them.

The result of this induction will be an “Approved Driver Card” which the driver will need to present to the Servosteel Weighbridge on all future arrivals. Presentation of the card will then allow the driver to enter site without further induction/training.

From Thurursday 24th October - Friday 8th November, dedicated timeslots of 2pm, 3pm & 4pm will be made available if you wish to send in your drivers without affecting loading/unloading times. Additional hourly slots on Sat 26th October, Saturday 2nd November & Saturday 9th November from 8am-11am will also be on offer. Please note loading & unloading of material will not be available on these Saturdays.

There is no need to book a slot, drivers will be free to attend at will, they will just need to come to site and report to the Weighbridge operative that they are here for their induction.

Alternatively we can induct drivers between now and the 8th November as they arrive on site during normal opening hours and activities, please bear in mind the drivers will need to be inducted before the loading/unloading process can commence. As per the Approved Driver Card, this will only occur once.

All drivers not inducted by the 8th November will need to be inducted before the loading/unloading process can commence. As per the Approved Driver Card, this will only occur once.

Below are examples of some of the documents involved in the new method of safe working.

For those of you that also use subcontracted hauliers, can you please make them aware of this email and the proposals detailed above ASAP.

Servosteel see this development as a huge step forward in improving the Safety Culture on our site for both our own employees and those of our partners.  Your support in this matter is greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your continued support,

Servosteel
